The calculation with sales figures takes into account market inflation, while the COGS does not. Some businesses are doing very well and may not understand what it costs for them to compete and how exponentially expensive it can be.”įor instance, a manufacturing company calculates its inventory ratio as 10.0 using its sales figures and 4.5 using its COGS. Many of my customers want a plan to provide this, but being successful is more about balancing inventory in the warehouses than developing sophisticated systems. Jake Rheude, Vice President of Marketing with Red Stag Fulfillment, an order and ecommerce fulfillment service, explains, “the current trend in the industry is one-day fulfillment. Regardless, companies should balance this important metric with what makes them a success. Many companies prefer an inventory turnover ratio higher than the industry standard. When using inventory turnover ratios, companies should decide which standard they want to achieve. This metric can be used, for example, to help calculate bonuses for personnel involved in those functions. Inventory turnover analysis and interpretation shows a company how efficient it is in sales and stock purchasing. Note: Industry averages vary with the type of business. Companies also compare this metric to historical turnover ratios, planned ratios and any relevant industry averages to see how competitive a business is in the marketplace. Primarily, accountants use the inventory turnover ratio to help the company make better stocking decisions and thereby manage inventory better. This efficiency ratio shows the cost of goods sold (COGS) divided by the average inventory amount for the period.Ĭompanies sometimes use an inventory turnover ratio, also called inventory or merchandise turns, when applying for loans to show the bank the stock value. Inventory turnover ratio measures how well a company manages its stock, which is the number of times the inventory sold over the year. Seropositivity for MOG-IgG in the setting of a severe relapse of central nervous system (CNS) demyelination warrants aggressive therapy with intravenous methylprednisolone or plasmapheresis. Seropositivity for MOG-IgG, in NMOSD like disorders, including optic neuritis (ON), transverse myelitis (TM), and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), predicts relapse and warrants consideration for maintenance immunosuppression. MS therapies may worsen MOG-IgG associated IDDs, so correct diagnosis is important. Detection of MOG-IgG implies an inflammatory demyelinating disorder distinct from MS. Patients seropositive for MOG-IgG are commonly misdiagnosed as MS. There is currently no biomarker specific for MS (multiple sclerosis). Patients only rarely harbor both antibodies. Mastrine said the threat of undisclosed biases grows as social media algorithms create filter bubbles to feed users ideologically consistent content.Ĭould rating bias help? Mastrine and Vanessa Otero, founder of the Ad Fontes media bias chart, think so. The growing public confusion about whether or not news outlets harbor a political bias, disclosed or not, is fueling demand for resources to sort fact from otherwise - resources like these media bias charts. “If a news consumer doesn’t see their particular bias in a story accounted for - not necessarily validated, but at least accounted for in a story - they are going to assume that the reporter or the publication is biased,” McBride said. Kelly McBride, an expert on journalism ethics and standards, NPR’s public editor and the chair of the Craig Newmark Center for Ethics and Leadership at Poynter, agrees. “When you have bias that’s not acknowledged, but is present, that’s really damaging to trust,” he said. If undisclosed bias threatens to mislead some news consumers, it also pushes others away, he said. When people are influenced by undisclosed political bias in the news they consume, “that’s pretty bad for democratic politics, pretty bad for our country to have people be consistently misinformed and think they’re informed,” Groeling said. Tim Groeling, a communications professor at the University of California Los Angeles, said some consumers take too much of the “news” they encounter as impartial. ![]() But those standards are not observed across the board in the “news” content that people consume.
